The Bardentreffen traditionally begins on Friday, but this year a familiar collaboration comes back to life as early as Wednesday with the pre-opening at the Filmhaus Nuremberg: cinema and festival, image and sound, memory and the present.

The evening is an invitation to get in the mood – for global music, for powerful voices, for stories that resonate deeply.

The film being shown is CHAVELA (USA 2017, directed by Catherine Gund & Daresha Kyi), a portrait of the exceptional Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, who performed traditional rancheras with an intensity that pushed boundaries: between genders, between cultures, between vulnerability and strength.
