Maxi Pongratz (GER)

Rarely have jury and audience been as unanimous as they were in 2025 when awarding the Passau “Scharfrichterbeil.” Both chose Maxi Pongratz, a renewer of folk music, for first place. Known for his band Kofelgschroa, his subtly witty lyrics, and his very distinctive accordion style, Maxi Pongratz is one of the major figures in the Bavarian music scene and has become an indispensable part of Germany’s cabaret and small-arts scene.
