JISR is the Arabic word for bridge. And such a bridge is built by the eponymous, internationally composed ensemble from Munich. It explores the boundaries between Afro-Oriental, jazz, rock, pop and classical music. The sounds of the Arabic oud and the viola meet the grooves of Gnawa music and the earthy sounds of the guembri, while brass instruments sound in the background, piano keys are struck and harp strings are plucked. This is accompanied by singing: multilingual, classical, soulful and rocky.
